PreK Music: 2nd Quarter
Second quarter in Pre-Kindergarten began with “Bate, Bate, Chocolate (Beating The Chocolate),” a Spanish song that allowed us sing in a language other than English, as well as explore tempo changes as we ‘stirred the chocolate’ faster and faster. We moved on to “The Hokey Pokey,” where we learned that musical phrases have a beginning and an end. We also learned to discriminate our right from our left using hula-hoops. We continued with “Mi Cuerpo (My Body),” singing the parts of the body in Spanish. We sang “I’m Tall, I’m Small,” and learned about melodic direction, using both xylophones and our bodies, reaching high for high notes, and scrunching down low for low notes. With Christmas approaching, we sang “Jingle Bells,” demonstrating steady beat with, you guessed it, jingle bells! We also became “Five Little Snowmen,” melting one by one. We concluded the quarter with “Looby Loo,” focusing on repeated notes. We performed repeated notes on xylophones, and improvised on the pentatonic scale, demonstrating non-repeating notes.
