Kindergarten: 2nd quarter
In the 2nd quarter of Kindergarten, we identify high and low sounds in the environment with “Sound Montage,” and explore different ways to use our voices through “Sing! Speak! Whisper! Shout!” and “Candy Man, Salty Dog.” We also enjoy creating dramatizations to these songs. We “Clap, Wiggle and Stomp!” to a steady beat as well as hopping, jumping, and other movements. We have a grand old time as we are “Doin’ The Penguin” with “5 Little Snowmen,” melting one by one as the “sun” (a yellow boom-whacker) comes out. We explore melodic direction with “I’m Tall, I’m Small,” moving up for high notes and getting low for low notes. At the end of each verse we determine whether the last note goes up, down or in the middle. We continue our steady beat activities with “Johnny Mister Brown” and “Jim Along Josie,” stamping, walking, running, tip-toeing, skipping, galloping and turning to the beat.
Kindergarten: 1st quarter
Everything is new in Kindergarten, so we started the year moving to the beat with “That’s What’s New With Me!” Our first time playing rhythm sticks and jingle taps were full of excitement as we played along to the call and response song,“Hello,There.”We loved following Mr. Apple with our voices to discover melodic direction. We traveled to Africa to play the singing game “Juba,” all the while reinforcing steady beat, and to find out if Juba could catch the yellow cat! We then traveled to Japan for “O ma washi (Go AroundThe Cat’s Shining Eye),” and played a fun game with a cat’s eye marble. We also compared and contrasted cat artwork, as well as the musical elements of the two songs. But we are sure to make it back from our globe-trotting in time for the Pumpkin Parade with“Trick orTreat” and“The Pumpkin March.” Enjoy the galleries of pictures below!
