“We get to be in the Christmas Pageant!” The excitement is palpable, with the boys as shepherds and the girls as angels, in white, complete with wings and halo. “Adorable” seems inadequate to describe the sight of these first graders coming down the aisle. They sing “The Friendly Beasts” together and join the rest of the Pageant cast for “He Is Born” and “Joy To The World.” Come January, we’ll be studying tempo with “Freight Train,” and demonstrating tempo changes with our “rope trains.” We’ll explore our voices with “Sing! Speak! Whisper! Shout!” and the ever-popular “Candy Man, Salty Dog.” We’ll use our voices to play “The Postman Game.” And we’ll begin learning how to read music notation with “Rain, Rain,” discriminating between beat and rhythm, and learning to read quarter notes and eighth notes. But for now, “We get to be in the Pageant!”
